Transfer news LIVE: Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah nears leave, Chelsea offers Chilwell to Manchester United and Sterling future

Transfer news LIVE

The 2024/25 Premier League season has begun, with clubs and managers confirming their rosters ahead of what is expected to be a lengthy campaign.

There have been numerous additions around the country to enhance squad depths and improve on last season's performances, from Ipswich and Southampton to Mikel Arteta's title-chasing Arsenal and Arne Slot's 'new' Liverpool.

The transfer window shuts at 11 p.m. BST on Friday, August 30, meaning teams have limited time to complete sales and transfers in the continuous effort to balance funds against PSR requirements.

Each day comes more news, rumours, and completed transactions, and as we approach the end of the transfer window, you can discover all of the latest happenings in our dedicated blog.

Is Ivan Toni moving to the Saudi League?

Ivan Toney appears to have played his final game for Brentford, having been left out of their Premier League opening against Crystal Palace.

The England striker missed Sunday's 2-1 triumph, with Bees manager Thomas Frank saying his absence was down to "transfer interest" and Brentford's decision to leave him out.

Al-Ahli of the Saudi Pro League are apparently interested in signing the 28-year-old, who has one year left on his contract, for £60 million.

The Saudis, like potential Premier League clubs Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United, are still a long way from that valuation.

Is Trippier leaving Newcastle?

According to Sky Sports and The Athletic, Kieran Trippier intends to leave Newcastle before the transfer market closes, with Everton a possible destination.

Trippier was Newcastle's first signing under new ownership in January 2022, and he has played a key role in the club's ascension to the top half of the Premier League.

The 33-year-old was an unused replacement in Saturday's opening-weekend triumph over Southampton, as Eddie Howe started Tino Livramento at right-back.

The captain's armband, which Trippier has worn for the majority of his time at St James' Park, has also been awarded to Bruno Guimaraes, indicating that the defender's playing time this season would be limited.

Trippier has two years left on his contract, but he wants to play regular football, even if it means joining a different club.

Everton have spoken with Newcastle about moving him on loan to Merseyside. Everton manager Sean Dyche and Trippier worked together at Burnley from 2012 to 2015.

Italian club Napoli agrees to sign Billy Gilmour.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Serie A team Napoli has agreed to pay roughly €18 million (£15.3 million) for Billy Gilmour.

The transfer guru said on X that the Brighton and Scotland midfielder will travel to Italy for a physical, which should take place sometime next week.

Xabi Alonso leads Leverkusen's Bundesliga defense as Vincent Kompany's Bayern empire pushes back.

Xabi Alonso leads Leverkusen's Bundesliga defense as Vincent Kompany's Bayern empire pushes back.

After years of dominance, the Invincible season arrived, when the German squad went undefeated against German opponents. Except that, after 11 consecutive Bundesliga wins, Bayern Munich gave up their crown. Bayer Leverkusen were undefeated and unstoppable. 'Neverkusen' - or 'Vizekusen' in German - was renamed 'Winnerkusen', and they added the Supercup and the German Cup to their first Bundesliga title, boosted by an unbelievable, almost unstoppable stream of injury-time goals.

German football has a certain type of predictability. The Bundesliga begins this weekend, with an increased focus on the slighted, deposed Germans. Bayern's reaction to losing their crown was unusual. They are accustomed to raiding their closest rivals, but were disappointed when Xabi Alonso elected to stay with Leverkusen. Instead of a manager whose only loss last season came to Atalanta in the Europa League final, they chose one who had been defeated 26 times: Vincent Kompany, who was relegated alongside Burnley.

Brighton are preparing to make a record signing of Rotter into the side.

Brighton's record signing of £40 million Georginio Rutter ensures they have plenty of firepower this season, and he might replace Fabian Hurzeler this weekend.

"We'll have to wait and see how he adapts, but he did play some pre-season games for Leeds." He has quickly assimilated into the group, which is the most important thing, but I am also confident he will be able to help us on the pitch because he has something special," he remarked.

Brighton now have Rutter, Danny Welbeck, Joao Pedro, and Evan Ferguson available as forwards.

Liverpool seeks the affection of Espanyol's goalkeeper

Liverpool has been heavily connected with Valencia's Giorgi Mamardashvili in recent days, with a buy-and-loan deal reportedly in the works.

However, he may not be the only LaLiga stopper they want, as Mundo Deportivo reports that they have joined Arsenal in pursuing Espanyol's Joan Garcia, who starred for them last season.

Arsenal appear to have been first in the running, but the Reds have now joined them; either acquiring him could indicate that their own second-choice goalkeepers are on the move, with Aaron Ramsdale recently pursued by Wolves and Caoimhin Kelleher attracting interest from several clubs earlier this summer.

Chelsea and Napoli meet to discuss Lukaku's future.

According to Sky Sports, today is a key day for Chelsea, as Giovanni Manna, Napoli's sporting director, is scheduled to meet with club executives.

The top item on the agenda is Romelu Lukaku, with the Italian club only proposing €30 million plus add-ons and Chelsea demanding more - but only ready to negotiate a permanent deal.

Antonio Conte wants Lukaku, Napoli lost on the first day, and Chelsea no longer wants him on their roster - and the striker has no other choices in Europe.
