Jack Teixeira, a Massachusetts Air National Guard member, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Tuesday after being found guilty of leaking classified information. His case raised concerns within the U.S. national security community about how easily government secrets can be spread online.
Teixeira appeared in U.S. District Court wearing an orange jumpsuit and sporting a buzz cut, facing Judge Indira Talwani. In March, he had pleaded guilty to six federal charges, including the unauthorized retention and distribution of top-secret national defense information. Teixeira, who will turn 23 next month, had requested an 11-year sentence, while prosecutors pushed for nearly 17 years.
